Open Reel Ensemble is an inventive musical project from Japan founded by 5 young musicians. Scratching reel-to-reel analog tape recorders to create a vintage-modern roller coaster of beats, Open Reel Ensemble brings together digital and analog in a way that gives new life to an outmoded machine. Their performance started to draw global attention when they got the grand prize in the Entertainment Division at the 15th Japan Media Arts Festival. This is their first time in Hong Kong with one show only. Not to be missed!

Showcasing experimental images is the highlight of ifva this year. Two opening films of the 18th ifva Festival – “Adventures of Tom Tomiczky” by legendary Hungarian computer animation master Tamas Waliczky and “CHIRI/Trace” by world-renowned Japanese director Naomi Kawase, showcase how the directors bravely blend experimental techniques into animation and documentary to let the audience experience their self-emotions and relationships with their beloved one.
